Islands Serves up a Smack Down with New Siracha Burger

Islands Restaurant has always been a family favorite for burgers, endless Island fries and cocktails, served in a casual environment. You can usually find my husband and I at Islands at least once every other week, when I don’t feel like cooking during the week. It’s a weekday spot for lunch and dinner, but it’s also the type of place you can bring a date, or the whole darn family.

This particular trip, my husband and I wanted to tap into our inner “Aloha” and opted to start the night off with a “Big Island Iced Tea,” which is an Islands play on the “Long Island Iced Tea.” The Big Island Iced tea blends triple sec with pineapple juice and strawberry puree. Oh, yeah – there’s also vodka, gin, tequila and rum. Consider yourself warned: it’s dangerously refreshing and goes down smoothly.

Appetizers

For some reason we decided to start with nachos, even though I knew I was going to order a new thing on their menu that would fill me up on its own. Piled atop the crispy, fresh-made chips with cheese were jalapenos, refried beans, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole and salsa. Amazing.

Sriracha Smack Burger

This is where things get really interesting. For a limited time, Islands is offering up a “Siracha Smack Burger.” Anything with “Siracha” in the title will 100% catch my attention and usually find itself in my belly. I put that stuff on darn near everything. This burger was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted and it was perfection. Utterly delicious and downright sloppy, this hot mess of a burger is one for the books. Made with Sriracha cream cheese, soy-Sriracha glaze, pickled peppers, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, onion and crispy bacon, this is the burger to end all spicy burgers. Islands has definitely outdone themselves with the Siracha Smack burger.

To me, the flavors were incredible and it had the perfect kick at the end. My husband isn’t quite as in touch with his inner spicy freak as I am, yet he still enjoyed the one or two bites I was willing to give up. For just under $12, complete with endless Island fries, I thought it was perfection and hope, hope, hope they keep it on the menu.

Dessert

We ended the night with a Chocolate Lava for dessert: fudge brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, roasted almonds and a cherry.

How I managed to walk out of that restaurant is beyond. I should have been rolled out.

My inner fat kid won the battle that day.

And I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
