Ritter’s Steam Kettle Cooking

Last week was my 16th wedding anniversary and my husband and I decided to try a new restaurant called Ritter’s Steam Kettle Cooking. It is located in South Coast Metro near South Coast Plaza and the location is very easy to get to . Ironically it is across the street from The Boiling crab and not far from The Kickin Crab but boy can this place hold it’s own!  I have to say the service we received was exceptional and probably the best I have ever had in Orange County.

When we arrived on a Friday night at 5:30pm the place was packed (that is always a good sign to me). We waited for about 10 minutes and then we sat at the bar and watched the cooks work. What a treat!! Here is a video of the chef’s making all the goodness happen:

We started off with some cider and french rolls. The rolls were nice and soft on the inside and lightly crusty on the outside- exactly the way a good French roll should be.

Then we ordered some bacon fried shrimp. While this was a tasty appetizer,  I will be ordering the shrimp cocktail in the future. I felt like I couldn’t taste the shrimp because there was so much bacon on it. But my husband really enjoyed these.

Then we both decided to try their soup. My husband got the Manhattan Clam Chowder and he thought it was very flavorful. He said it had a bit of a spicy kick to it with a slow burn.

I had the New England clam chowder and I absolutely loved it! There were huge delicious chunks of clams in it that I tasted with every spoonful.

Finally my long awaited pan roast came and all I could do was admire it. It was so pretty. If you are wondering what a pan roast is it’s a tomato cream based creole dish served with rice, trinity, shrimp, crab, clams and lobster. All I can say is this is something to add to your bucket list. It is so good!

My husband ordered the Bouillabaisse which consisted of shrimp, crab, lobster, whitefish, mussels and clams cooked in a tomato leek based soup with saffron. Not only did this entree look pretty but it tasted great too!

Unfortunately we were so full we didn’t have any room for dessert. But I heard they have beniegnts so that will be a must try for next time.
