Savory Bites at Savannah Chop House

Last week I created a little excitement in my life by dining at Savannah Chophouse in Laguna Niguel for the very first time. I have lived in South Orange County for 13 years and I couldn’t believe I had never been to this beautiful establishment.

Savannah’s Interior

The interior of Savannah Chophouse is really elegant and classy and would be a perfect place to take that special someone on a date. The large, red, old school booths, dark interior and white tablecloths are actually a welcome throwback to another time. I love how this restaurant is not scared to show a little personality.

Savannah Drinks

We started off our night with some delicious white sangria. It was so refreshing on a hot summer night. We also tried a citrus vodka with a muddled cucumber that resembled a Mojito. I love the taste of mint and this drink did not disappoint.

The particular night that I dined at Savannah was for a social club that I belong to and the menu was pre-selected. We sampled a variety of delicious appetizers that kept getting better as we went along. From left to right: Bruschetta  with tomatoes, Garlic, Basil, Olive Oil on a Crostini, Tempura stuffed Zucchini, Smoked Salmon on a toasted point with black pepper sour cream and crispy shallots, and Grilled prosciutto wrapped shrimp.

After our appetizers, we sampled two different salads. A watermelon beet salad with candied pecans, Goat Cheese & Herbal Vinaigrette as well as an amazing caesar salad with fried capers and parmesan.

Finally, it was time for the main course! A filet medallion with mashed potatoes and a grilled prawn. Wow, i could have eaten two of these they were so good. The meat was very tender and the mashed potatoes had a nice texture to them. The prawn was an added bonus and really tied the dish together,

To top off our fabulous meal, chef Tzorin prepared two delicious desserts. A Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and berries and a Strawberry Short Cake with fresh Strawberries and Whipped Cream. Both were incredible and were just the right sized portion.

Chef Tzorin is the executive Chef for Savannah Chophouse and he has an incredible story to tell. Tzorin has spent the last 14 years training in the field of culinary arts. It’s a profession that has roots in his family extending back to Guatemala where his father and uncle were raised and learned to cook. Chef Tzorin was kind enough to give us a tour of the kitchen and we got to see exactly where the magic happens.

A Surprise

monsters

The night before our amazing dinner at Savannah Chophouse I had attended a media preview for Knott’s Scary Farm 2015. Little did we know those monsters would be following us to dinner the next night. We had a great laugh and enjoyed being scared all over again.
