Zov’s Kitchen and Bar in Anaheim

I had the pleasure of attending a pre-opening night at Zov’s Kitchen and Bar in Anaheim. What a great location! It is directly on the corner of Katella and State College. There is a patio area that you can choose to eat on or just enjoy a couple of drinks and watch the passers by.

As you walk in the restaurant, you are greeted by the host at the front desk. Behind the host desk is a long, beautiful bar with beautiful lighting. Next, you’ll see the rest of the restaurant including a dining area and another semi-private dining area of you are interested in hosting a party there.

On the walls, you’ll want to look at the pictures around the restaurant. They are all Zov’s personal pictures and they tell the story from when she opened her very first location in Tustin.

Zov is really an unlikely success. She had never even worked in a restaurant before she opened her first location. With a passion for food, she jumped in the restaurant industry with both feet and has now successfully opened her 6th location!! With her son and daughter working alongside her in this family operated business, it was truly an honor to dine with them on such a fabulous evening.

Zov’s signature cocktail at the Anaheim location is the Melon Mule. It was a perfect blend of vodka, ginger beer and lime juice served in a copper mug. After sipping on our cocktails and mingling a bit, we made our way to a table to enjoy an array of foods with tremendous flavor.

We had a total of 4 appetizers! First up, and my personal favorite, was Brussels Sprouts and Bacon with a Pinot Noir syrup. I could not get enough of this delectable dish. Second, Fried Cauliflower. This was served in a roasted pepper aioli sauce. Also very tasty! Third out, Lamb Meatballs served with Pita. These were slightly spicy and packed with flavor! Last, but certainly not least, were Triple Pepper Deviled Eggs. All of the Family Style Starters were amazing.

For the entrees we chose Peppercorn Filet and Who Gives A Shitake Pitza. The filet was served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The filet was grilled to perfection. I’m pretty sure I could have cut the meat with a butter knife! It was so good and it simply melted in my mouth. The olive oil mashed potatoes were slightly chunky and full of flavor. The vegetable were still al dente, which is exactly the way I like them.

The Pitza is made with a basil purée in place of the common pesto purée. This was such a fresh alternative and pairs perfectly with the rotisserie chicken, Shitake mushrooms, goat cheese and olives. The Pitza crust is a thin crispy crust. This would also make for an excellent appetizer for the table to share.

I found it fun to read about the different pitzas Zov’s had to offer. They came up with some pretty clever names! Such as the one we enjoyed, Who Gives a Shitake; Crush, which features crushed marzano tomato and I’m Simple and I Know It, which is the classic pepperoni!
For dessert, we feasted on the Broken Banana Creme Pie. This is not your typical “piece of pie”. It is exactly how the name implies. With pieces of caramelized bananas topped with creme, it was the perfect ending to a delicious meal that left me stuffed yet still wanting more!
