Aloha Poke Co.

If you are craving tasty poke, you’ll want to head over to Aloha Poke Co. in Costa Mesa. The company was born in Chicago as a tiny food stall in a train station. Now they are the classic story that ‘BIG things come in little packages’.

Their concept is simple: They create delicious poke bowls using fresh ingredients in a timely manner. These bowls will fuel you up for your day ahead.

Aloha Poke Co. Interior

The first thing you will see when you step foot into the restaurant is a big wall covered in artificial turf with neon Hawaiian Islands and the words “blah blah blah poke”. Adjacent to it is another wall full of Hawaiian  dolls in grass skirts. It really is quite a conversation piece and makes the environment feel fun and modern.

There is plenty of seating including a bar style area with tall stools and a fun hopscotch.. Kids will love this while their parents are ordering.

Aloha Poke Co. Sizes

Poke bowls here come in 3 sizes: Little (8 oz) Big (16 oz) and Kahuna (24 oz). The little is very tiny so I recommend ordering the big.

if you are hoping to watch the employees make your bowl, unfortunately you will not be able to see this. However, they are quite good at communicating so just relay any requests and they will accommodate.

Blogger Tip #1: I suggest ordering your fish “naked style” as the marinated style is on the heavier side. You will be able to taste the fish better by ordering it “naked”.

Blogger Tip #2 You can ask for avocado at no extra cost.

If you do not want rice or salad as a base, kelp noodles are available. (They are not advertised on the website). The picture above is the Aloha bowl containing: pineapple, cucumber, scallions, jalapeno, maui onion and a sesame vinaigrette. It was very tasty.

Another popular bowl is the Crunch bowl, made with jalapeno, cucumber, scallions, edamame, tobiko,  crunch and a spicy Aioli sauce. The tobiko was my favorite as it reminds me of caviar.

For drinks, they offer canned sodas or bottled teas.

Fun Fact #1: Aloha Poke Co.’s Tuna is long line wild caught from the Pacific Ocean using sustainable practices.  Each day they slice, dice and serve over rice.  The product they serve can be tracked from fishing line to chopstick through traceability innovation programs.

Fun Fact #2: Their Atlantic Salmon is farm raised in one of the most optimal & sustainable ecosystems, the coastlines of Norway & Chile. These clean, clear environments ensure the salmon maintains its naturally high fat & oil content, resulting in great taste & texture.
