Birthday Lunch at Avilas El Ranchito

Sunday was my 37th 21st birthday so Hubby and I went out to lunch with some friends for Mexican food at Avilas El Ranchito . I particularly love the Laguna Niguel location because they have an outside patio that is completely  covered in shade.

I started off with a coconut Margarita and my girlfriend had a Pomegranate Margarita. Both were delicious although a tad on the small side. We also ordered some guacamole. I absolutely love a good chunky guacamole and although this guacamole was chunky it lacked a little on the seasoning. It was rather bland and I would have enjoyed some more kick but it was still good and we ate the whole thing. We also ordered a plate of ceviche but the shrimp was a little over cooked and I was expecting more sauce. It was served with crispy flat tortillas but we were already eating chips and salsa so I kind if wished it was served with a lettuce wrap instead of more chips.

For my main entree I ordered Mama Avila’s Soup and salad. All I can say is WOW! This soup was amazing. It was a large bowl of chicken breast and rice soup, garnished with fresh avocado, cilantro, onions and tomatoes. Served with warm tortillas. There was so much pulled chicken in this soup it was delicious! The salad was also delicious. The lettuce was crisp and came with cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, black beans, corn and peppers.

One of my friends ordered the Chingolingas –  A flaky pastry filled with chicken served with rice and beans, garnished with guacamole and sour cream. He said it was Absolutely delicious!

My other friend ordered a carne asada taco and she also said the meat was cooked perfectly.

Now that we now what to order and what not order I am excited to go back and try some new items on their menu.
