Guide to the Rendez-Vous VIP Experience at Odysseo

This is a guest post by Katie Brandenburger.

Inside one of the giant white tents at Odysseo is the Rendez-Vous VIP Lounge. Once through the threshold of the tent, I could see and feel the vastness of the area, and only imagine how much time and effort went in to creating such an elaborate lounge. Even more impressive

Rendez-Vous Lounge is open to ticket holders 90 minutes before the show. Even though it sounds like plenty of time, I recommend getting there before the 6:30 opening to cut back on your outdoor wait time. The night I went happened to be 54 degrees, and the line to get in was entirely outside. I suggest bringing a fairly think jacket if you don’t plan on arriving earlier than the 6:30 p.m. opening time, and even if you do, I’d bring one just to be safe. But also be advised that I’m a Southern California cold weather snob, so anything below 70 and I break out the parka. But 54 degrees was extreme.ly cold, especially with a light wind working against us. Once inside the tents, the temperature was perfect.

I arrived at the Rendez-Vous VIP Lounge at exactly 6:30, but did not enter the tent until 7:05 p.m., leaving me with less than one hour to get in line for the buffet, eat my meal, have a glass of champagne, “relax” before the show, and get to my seat. Though one hour might seem adequate, the wait for food was 5-7 minutes, as was the line for the women’s portable restrooms outside (incredibly nice portable restrooms, but it was a very small space to navigate). The lines for alcohol were very short; but space for eating and sitting was limited.

The buffet was delicious, with menu options for every type of eater: pescatarian, vegetarian and carnivore and omnivores.

The show started fairly promptly after the announcements, so start walking to your seats as soon as the last announcement is made, at the latest. But make sure to grab a bag of popcorn on your way to the show (included with tickets, as well)!

Intermission was spent grazing the dessert station (the tiramisu was amazing!), and sipping one more glass of sparkling wine before heading back to my seat.

Post-show was a stable visit. It took approximately 30-40 minutes after the show for the crew to ready the horses for the stable tour, and we waited inside the still temperate-controlled Rendez-Vous tent. A self-guided tour, it was an incredible experience taking photos with them, and reading about their personalities and birthplaces (I noticed many of the horses were from other countries).

The show was most definitely unlike anything I’ve ever seen, but several parts of the show did remind me of Cirque du Soleil…and Game of Thrones. Odd, as that may seem, it was a winning combination in my book.

Note: none of the tickets include parking. Be prepared to pay a $20 parking fee (pay inside the tent, just before you leave; or you can pay online before your show date [recommended]).

Win a family 4-pack of tickets to see the Odysseo on December 7th @7:30pm.

** Tickets are for that show only so if you cannnot attend that day/time please do not enter. I will announce winner tomorrow morning at 8am!
