New Menu Highlight at Angelina’s Pizzeria Napoletana

Disclosure

Conveniently located in the heart of Irvine,  Angelina’s Pizzeria Napoletana is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in South Orange County. I absolutely love the location in the bustling Los Olivos Marketplace because it is easily accessible and has plenty of parking. One you walk inside you are taken away from cookie cutter SoCal and transported into an upscale eatery with a wood-fire oven, walls of imported wine, luxurious vaulted ceilings and the friendliest wait-staff you will ever find.

Angelina’s is known for preserving family recipes and combining them with new world techniques in order to deliver a truly authentic experience. On a recent media visit I had a chance to try out some of the new menu highlights from executive chef Jonah Amodt. (Chef Amodt graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts)

New Menu Highlights

Stuzzichino

First up is Burrata di Primavera. It consists of Burrata, english peas, fava beans, mint and lemon. It’s creamy, crunchy, and it pairs perfectly with a Prosecco  (C’A Furlan Cuvee Beatrice, Veneto)

Antipasto

Next is “Polipo e Ceci”. This is charred octopus, braised chickpeas, tomatoes and marjoram. Let me tell you, this is the best octopus you will ever taste. It’s crunchy texture means it’s been cooked to perfection. Pair this with a chianti and you will be in heaven!

Primi

For the first course try the Gnocchi. These delicate potato pouches are covered in bolognese sauce and topped with burrata and basil. Your eyes may roll into the back of your head. I would have eaten two of these bowls.

Intramezzo

Cleanse your palate with a Sgroppino. It’s Lemon sorbet, tito’s vodka, prosecco and basil.

Secondi

I love fish and eat all kinds but Halibut is my favorite. I love the buttery flavor and the flakey texture but it has to be made just right. Angelina’s Halibut di Stagione is spot on made with creamy leek puree, sautéed oyster mushrooms and wild ramps.

Create a surf and turf with Cosole di Vitello. It’s a veal chop with charred rapini puree, apricot mostarda and potatoes.I love that it’s on a shank bone and I can eat with my hands.

Dolce

All good meals end with dessert. Angelina’s has a Zabaglione al Rabarbaro mixed with raspberry, blackberry, and served with a side of almond cantucci. Also be sure to ask for a COCOACCINO. it’s a Cappuccino served in a Nutella rimmed coffee cup. You will be licking the bottom of the cup!

Other Favorites from Angelina’s

Meatballs made with pomodoro sauce, burrata, and fresh basil.

Margherita Pizza made with Mozzarella di Bufala, San Marzano DOP pomodoro sauce, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil.
