Disclosure

With so many amazing seafood restaurants located along the coast, it’s hard to determine where to go when celebrating a special occasion that calls for seafood.

When in San Diego, there’s no better dining experience to have than what you’ll find at The Oceanaire Seafood Room downtown. Located between Market Street and Harbor Drive, this upstairs dining room is an elegant establishment with fine attention to detail when it comes to your food and your visit as their guest.

Fresh Seafood Specialties

The fresh menu of fish changes daily, but you’ll find some fantastic items to choose from which are described in great length by your waiter. He will have your mouth watering just in sharing with you what each dish contains and how the food is prepared. Make sure to ask for recommendations because the waitstaff really knows their stuff and can often suggest things, like butter mixed with lump crab, to top off your selection of choice.

If you’re a fan of fresh oysters, you’ll love that you can order from their Oyster Bar individually to create a combination of flavors to satisfy everyone’s favorites. Their Oysters Rockefeller are pretty amazing as well. I savored each and every one of them and took my time enjoying them until our main course arrived.

Chef Selections

From the “Angry” Flash Fried Whole Black Gill Rockfish to the “Kid Dynamite” Mexican Mahi Mahi, you will not be disappointed with the fantastic seafood selection. If anything, you’ll find it hard to narrow down what to order, which is why I suggest you go with a small group of friends so you can sample many of the dishes and share some of the sides.

Scallops from The Oceanaire Seafood Room

Sous Chefs Tyler Thrasher and Nathan Mantyla really know how to combine flavors to keep guests delighted from first bite to finish. The “Black and Bleu” Alaska King Salmon with caramelized onions and bleu cheese butter was amazing. Life-changing, I dare say. The Pan Seared Boston Scallops over the cider braised pork belly is a flavorful combination that melts in your mouth.

Decadent Desserts

I had no idea what Baked Alaska was until the waiter described it for us. Their dessert menu will overwhelm you but you’ll want to choose at least one item to share with your special someone. The Baked Alaska is definitely an experience! We drooled over the chocolate cake drizzled with caramel and chocolate sauce. It was rich and thick and they do not skimp on the serving size, so save room for this happy ending to your night.

Extensive Wine Selection

If you’re a wine connoisseur, you should definitely ask for the Captain’s List when you arrive, which offers reserve selections and large bottles of some of the top, recommended wines from the Sommelier. From sparkling to whites, reds, and roses, the wine menu will certainly overwhelm you, but their seasoned wine stewards will help select the right pairing throughout your meal.

Private & Group Dining

The Oceanaire is the ideal spot for a special event or occasion. Private Dining is available for up to 40 guests with Semi-Private Dining for up to 100 guests. They offer private luncheons as well and specialize in making any occasion – a business dinner, company function, retirement, holiday celebration, or even a wedding reception – a unique and unforgettable experience with their ultra-fresh fare and superior service.

Personalized Menus for Special Occasions

Not only did the restaurant staff create a personalized menu for me when they had me as their guest, but I have seen photos from others who have had personalized menus printed for their birthday, anniversary or other special occasion. Be sure to let the staff know ahead of time what you’re celebrating so they can prepare accordingly, yet another detailed and lovely gesture each VIP guest will appreciate.
