National Daiquiri Day Recipe
Today is National Daiquiri Day! Here is a little known fact about the Daiquiri:
- In 1898, Jennings Cox created the Daiquiri. Cox was a U.S. mining engineer who, while working in the Daiquiri mines in Cuba, mixed BACARDĺ rum, fresh lime and sugar to create an ice cold drink to cool him down in the intense heat. Word spread rapidly about this new cocktail and top bartenders in Havana picked it up in no time.
Here is a recipe for a Bacardi Daiquiri for you to enjoy! Cheers!
2 parts BACARDÍ Superior rum
1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
2 tsp sugar
METHOD: Place sugar and freshly pressed lime juice into a cocktail shaker and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Then pour in the BACARDÍ Superior rum and fill the shaker with half-cubed ice, followed by some half-crushed ice. Place the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled. Finally, strain through a fine tea strainer into a chilled coupette (or cocktail glass).
Top up with crushed ice, a splash of soda and a sprig of mint.
